Seed: 3-nerved lemma with short-awns; may be slightly pubescent; paleas usually glabrous; tan colored
Seedling: leaves rolled in whorl; parallel ridges and hairs on sheath; course leaf blades with hairs along margin; truncate ligule with fringe of hairs; no auricles
Mature Plant: mostly upright bunch-type growth habit; panicle inflorescence with many one-sided spikelets
Method of Propagation: seed, rhizomes
Life Cycle: warm-season perennial
