Identifying Characteristics:
Seed: rounded seed with one flatter side; seed coat slightly shiny; notch in one side; black in color out of the hull; gray or tan in hull
Seedling: triangular, alternate leaves that may or may not be toothed; underside of leaves covered in mealy particles, giving a white appearance; prominent purple venation on stem
Mature Plant: erect growth habit; small, sessile flowers in clusters near axils of leaves and at the end of branches; flowers covered by mealy particles
Method of Propagation: seed
Life Cycle: warm-season annual
